So the new Dell PC arrives, with Windows Vista and Office 2007. Which laptop do i take on the train this week? Decide to get the 3g network card up and running so I have internet access whilst away. Insert the original CD - and it seems to think Vista is Windows 2000 - and needs to be upgraded. Decide to visit the Vodafone shop to see if they have any newer CDs or a web link - no help. So send an email to Vodafone. The next day a reply is received with a link to website. I download the software and try to run it - but it says files missing. Give up after two hours. Next day decided to burn the install files to a Cd and run from that - it works and installs!! Go to plug in the 3g card....and there is no PCMCIA slot to insert it!! What looks like a slot is in fact for a different card!!
USB to the rescue - find a USB to PCMCIA device on the internet. Not sure if Vista compatible or not but it was agreed that I could return it if it did not work. Turned up the next day ... installed the software ...then inserted the 3g card .....success!!
Another little problem solved. Find more about the USB to PCMCIA card (and many others) on Accountants Power Tools.
